In a major boost to the AI audio industry, ElevenLabs has raised $781 million in its latest funding round, pushing the companyâs valuation to an impressive $11 billion. The new capital will accelerate the companyâs expansion beyond speech synthesis into full-scale AI music generation through its upcoming platform, Eleven Music.
With this move, ElevenLabs is positioning itself as a direct competitor to emerging AI music platforms like Suno and Udio.
The Heavy Hitters Moving the Needle:
This funding effort was spearheaded by Sequoia Capital, with partner Andrew Reed joining the ElevenLabs board. But they aren’t alone; the roster of backers reads like a “whoâs who” of Silicon Valley and global venture capital, including:
- Andreessen Horowitz (a16z)
- ICONIQ & Lightspeed Venture Partners
- BOND, BroadLight, and Smash Capital
- …and several others, with even more investors expected to be revealed in the coming months.
Beyond Voice: The “Eleven Music” Revolution
ElevenLabs isn’t just about making “human-sounding” voices anymore. They are expanding into the music industry with the launch of Eleven Music. To ensure they do it the right way, theyâve already secured licensing deals with major rights holders Kobalt and Merlin.
This move signals a shift from a niche tool to a comprehensive audio powerhouse.
“We began by creating a voice that could sound human â and we succeeded. We are now developing foundational models for the entire audio stack.” â Piotr DÄ bkowski, Co-founder of ElevenLabs
Whatâs Next?
The goal is simple but ambitious: total audio immersion. The team is currently building out a full-stack suite that includes:
- Text-to-Speech & Dubbing
- Transcription
- Music Generation
- Conversational AI Models
ElevenLabs is no longer just a voice companyâthey are building the infrastructure for how we experience sound in the digital age.
